Hummingbirds  

Congratulations to Emma Rhonemus, 8th Grader at Hampton Cove Middle who placed 1st in her division at her school and 2nd in her division at the Northern Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair at UAH.  She now advances to the State Competition for her experiment on hummingbird feeder preferences.  According to Emma's data, the most popular shape of hummingbird feeders is the flat disk shaped feeder (because the birds can see their surroundings). The bottle disk feeder was second, followed by the tube feeder. Of course, we carry all three types at Across the Pond! We love to see the enthusiasm and dedication of young birdwatchers and are pleased for Emma to share the results with us.  We'll be pulling for her to win the state competition!

  

We also have our own indoor/outdoor aviary near the Nature Garden where you can enjoy the antics of our resident budgerigars (parakeets) or visit with Andy, our talking cockatiel who watches over the cash registers.
